2024 Annual Fund Drive -
To Our Community Members and Friends,
As winter unfolds and the memories of summer and fall gradually recede, we embark on our annual fund drive with a deep sense of gratitude for your enduring support. We trust this letter finds you and your loved ones in good health, and we extend heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering generosity you have bestowed upon our Fire Company in times past.
This year, our Fire Company stands at a distinctive juncture. Although advancements in fire prevention and robust building codes have curtailed the frequency of structure fires, our agency faces a surge in the demand for our multifaceted services. Originating in 1946 with a primary focus on responding to fire emergencies, our scope has expanded to encompass a broader array of services. Presently for 2023, we have responded to over 270 calls for service, this year alone—an increase of 26 percent on average compared to recent years.
These calls span a spectrum of emergencies, including structure fires, vehicle fires, chimney fires, fire alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, vehicle extrications, rescue missions, water rescue emergencies, and support to our Mutual Aid Areas during times of crisis.
Entering our 77th year of service to the Township of Shaler, our membership remains entirely volunteer-driven. We welcomed six new firefighters this year, individuals whose commitment and dedication are beyond description. These members devote their time to continuous improvement, engaging in mandatory and voluntary trainings covering diverse areas such as new technologies, electric vehicle responses, railroad response, vehicle rescue, water rescue, trench rescue, rope rescue, pump operations, and emergency vehicle operations, certification in CPR and the use of an AED, all to further enhances their preparedness.
Your generous contributions have empowered us to acquire additional equipment and training, reinforcing our ability to serve the community effectively. In 2021, we introduced the new 262 Squad, recently delivered in 2023, quickly becoming a valuable resource alongside our suppression units. In 2023, we committed to acquiring a new Pierce Ascendant 107’ Aerial to replace our aging Ladder Truck, a move necessitated by escalating servicing costs and downtime. The new Aerial will significantly enhance our capabilities as a Truck Company. Concurrently, our Engine, a 1996 Seagrave, is undergoing refurbishment to extend its service life upon return. The Utility, operational since this year, serves as a support and command vehicle, augmenting our response capabilities. Your donations have also facilitated the replacement of gear and the enhancement of tools, further fortifying our capacity to serve.
It is crucial to note that, as a Fire Company, we do not receive Tax-Based funding. Therefore, your invaluable donations play a pivotal role in sustaining our operations. Rest assured, we are a Not-for-Profit organization, and your donation is tax-deductible; your check serves as a receipt. For your convenience, donations can also be made online via the provided QR Code.
